Yes Mookins the well water is free. Our mains water is metered so using the well for the garden keeps our bill down.

How lovely to have access to well water. My water is metered too so I am sad enough to want rain to refill my nearly empty water butt :)

Ideal when you have a well ! it's good to get it set up at the start of the season, we can gain 20 ° in a day here this time of the year, as I'm sure you can chris ! sadly after getting ours all going a couple of years ago and after a few years of a real shortage of rain ours went dry, sob ! so I have a huge array of waterbutts. How deep is the well out of interest ?

It's about 9 metre's deep we think.

Hi Chrispook...I do miss our well, ideal for the watering...
My hubby has laid porous pipe all around the garden areas to be watered, and it's on a timer, we think its by far the cheapest way of keeping the plants and veg watered, we too are on a water meter...and the porous pipe is recycled from old car tyres...

I wish that I could do that!
The problem is that here in Texas, most of the wells and lakes are drying up because of the intense drought this year. I have never seen a summer this bad. Trees, grass, shrubs, native plants, everything is dying. :-(

What a shame...it is heartbreaking to see such things happen, especially trees, knowing how far their roots can & do travel...shows how far down the problem exists...
Our well used to dry up, in extreme heat too...but was a godsend for the watering, while we had it...
