Hiya everyone!! I just wanted to say a big thankyou to you all on your thoughts and ideas on how to help me get rid of the horrid slate chippings. As suggested i brought a garden seive, and wow im in love! Works a treat, however i am having to get through it very slowly as my arms begin to hurt! i’ll get builders arms by the end of it! : ) I am very pleased that where i have been removing some weeds and unattractive bushes i discovered that the soil is very nice beneath the chipping exterior!!! so i am very pleased. I recently brough a grow house off ebay, as my tomatoe plant was far to big for the pot. The grow house is very tidy and simple, however the cover does need to be more secured to the frame as rain will weigh the top down, and turn it inside out as i have recently found out!! better late than never ( my tomatoes aren’t too upset luckily). If any one does get a similar grow house just bare in mind that it should be secured to a wall/surface as strong gales which we have been experiencing will knock it over. I will put some photos of it soon.
But again THANKYOU for helping me get off to a good start to my garden. I can now see past the SLATE CHIPPINGS! : )

That's good progress,vn,you must feel very pleased with finding some decent soil underneath..probably will only need some decent stuff digging in,when you decide what to plant..any nutrients, will have long gone.
My growhouse is secured to a low fence,by means of upright battens screwed on it.We drilled holes in the battens at each side, level with those rings on the outer cover, and threaded wire through .It has never blown over in the strong winds. I also have a couple of heavy stones on the bottom shelf, till I overwinter pots there..

I am pleased for you. It sounds as if you're determined to have a lovely garden, and I wish you luck.
I've got those grow house things, but I've put them in a sheltered place and with big concrete blocks on the bottom shelves. It sounds like a waste of space but I can't bend down there, so never use those shelves anyway.
