Just a few things making me smile

I sat in the greenhouse today, resting after cutting back some grasses … it was great to actually be outside DOING something! So I grabbed my iPad and shot a few plants worth sharing :)
Loropetalum, happy under cover for a few more weeks

Leucothoe, waiting to go into ericaceous raised bed

Origanum from seed, hardeining off

Wood Anemones, still under cover

Salvia Amistad – so relieved that I took this cutting! All others in the garden have disappeared

Anemone coronaria, my current favourite

Looking forward to warmth and sunshine soon!

Meadowland, thanks for posting your Leucothoe, which inspired me!

You have some great plants there Sheila!
I wish I had thought to take cuttings of my salvias as they have always come through the winter ok, but this year was especially cold and have lost them!

That’s bad luck Rose … I think we were all taken by surprise at such a long, bleak winter.

Lots of delicate lovelies, Sheila. I like your anemones and the coronaria is particularly lovely.

Many thanks Ange 🙂.

Beautiful flowers & plants, Sheila! 👍

love the anemones but the wood ones are a native and will come through the hardest winters. Do you plan to plant them out?
Those shrubs are lovely, gorgeous colours but I cant grow them here to alkaline. Daren't have another pot!

It is a lovely feeling getting soil under the nails and doing some actual gardening stuff isn't it.

Very nice Sheila, I'm looking forward to some gardening soon too :)

Thanks David!

Thank you Eileen … yes, I will plant out the wood anemones. The seller told me to handle them carefully and wait until spring.

Thank you Hywel, hopefully not too long now 🙂.

A lovely, special selection of plants here Sheila. Each on is very pretty indeed. I love anemones too and yours is such a sweet colour.

There is a clump of wood anemones on a bare hillside near here, and there's a wood lower down in the valley. It looks as though the wood once reached up much higher as I've never seen them in an exposed site like that anywhere else.
Excuse me Sheila - its nothing to do with the post of your lovely earlies - the photo just reminded me and I thought maybe somebody might find it as interesting as I did.

it's great seeing life some through , could really do with some warm sun.

Thank you Chris, and Sue (no problem at all Sue, it’s interesting), and Paul. Yes, we could all do with some warm sunshine - the sooner the better!

Lovely photos of your plants. I love the 1st one especially, & that gorgeous Anemone. You made me take a look at my Leucothoe & yes its leaves are turning a lovely colour like yours. Mine is in a pot outside, have had it for a few years.

Lovely pics, Sheila! The wood anemones are such pretty flowers. The last pic of the anenome coronaria is gorgeous! Smashing colours.
The vividness of your Loropetalum!!!! Shocking Pink indeed!
Your plants are looking fresh and healthy!

Many thanks Josee, I’m glad your Leucothoe is thriving.

Thank you Kate, yes it’s a relief that the Loropetalum has survived in the greenhouse in spite of low night-time temperatures 🙂.

Gorgeous plants Sheila and the anemone is such a beautiful colour. I have managed to prune and tie up a couple of my roses back to the trellis today, and also empty a couple of pots ready for planting. Sadly two of my salvia are no more but "hot lips" is doing well and has got new growth.

19 Mar, 2023

Thank you Phyl, good to see you 🙂. How strange to lose some salvias but not “hot lips”. I’ve lost my herbaceous salvias, but think the shrubby ones are ok … but too early to offer any cuttings to you!

I know exactly how you feel Sheila, champing at the bit to get busy in the garden. Yes, some very pretty plants you have there, and my Amistad cutting has overwintered on my kitchen windowsill..:)
Your lorepetalum is looking so healthy! I've a feeling now that I've put mine to the test being out all winter, no red flowers to show for that!
We've lost lots haven't we this winter, my first year shrubby salvias mostly haven't made it, but new growth on the lovely bright pink ones, I've noticed today..:)
Your anemone is especially lovely..x

Some lovely plants here Sheila, you've solved a puzzle for me, I have the pretty little wood anenome that has just started to flower but the label has blown away, now I don't have to go through all my notes, I like the anenome as well....

23 Mar, 2023

Thanks Janey, and that’s good news about the Amistad - well worth keeping. I do hope your Loropetalum will be ok in spite of no flowers … yet. Fingers crossed. Yes, the winter was too cold and too long! x

Thanks Sue, that was lucky 🙂.

Sheila, thanks for pointing me to the photo of your Loropetalum ... such a bright colour on those flowers ... prefer it to my white ones to be honest!

21 May, 2023

Thanks Shirley! They are quite tender, so we have only just taken them out of the greenhouse …

21 May, 2023

I will try and take cuttings Shirley … I think this is my favourite colour for garden flowers. Recently planted Salvia Cerro Posti and Salvia Wine and Roses - I think you’ll like them too 🙂.

21 May, 2023

Sheila, I just viewed images of those Salvias ... such deep colours ... fabulous choices!

23 May, 2023

🙂🙂
