Autumn stroll ...

Just a few photos to share with you, taken as an experiment with my iPad!
Salvia Amistad growing through Amelanchier in its autumn finery

Anemone Charlotte Konigin, going over – it will disappear completely in the winter so I will mark the spot

Eupatorium

Hakonechloa macra (my favourite grass)

Salvia with Hakonechloa

Fuchsia ‘shrimp’

Acer, possibly Orange Dream

Geranium pratense, a lovely lilac colour, to be planted this week

Cuttings in cold greenhouse, mostly of Phlox chattahoochee, hoping to plant them ‘en masse’ in the Spring. Not sure how I’ll keep them alive in the winter – any ideas very welcome!

Happy gardening, and keep warm :)

Looks lovely. Especially like your favourite grass- one to bear in mind when designing my grass border.

Thanks Amsterdam 🙂.

Love that Salvia Amistrad. I had one once but it isn't hardy, died in the winter. :-( Perhaps you could try putting some fleece over those cuttings at night for a bit of extra protection. Nice photos & a lovely Acer.

Thanks Josee - good idea!

Some great pictures there Sheila. Perhaps covering the cuttings with newspaper might ward off the cold if the temperature doesn't fall too low. It's worked for me in the past

Thanks Julia - good thinking 🙂.

Lots of lovely colour still persisting, Sheila! It’s great to see! That’s a pretty anemone too. As Amsterdam says, I’m liking that hakonechloa grass! One to consider next year..
Can’t beat acers in the garden, it’s an attractive one, Sheila. It does look like orange dream, I have this one too.

Lovely photos Sheila, I also like Hakonechloa macra, it doesn't grow too big.
Good luck with your cuttings, I think they'll be fine if you just watch they don't dry out too much, but don't keep them in soggy soil either.

Kate and Hywel, many thanks for your positive comments 🙂🙂.

Attractive set of photos, Sheila. I do like the anemone - is it a real pink or does it have a touch of lilac like a lot of them do? I like the grass too. It's not one I know. As for overwintering cuttings, my track record is not good so I'll leave others to advise!

Thank you Ange … glad you like Anemone Charlotte! I love it - a double and yes a ‘real’ pink 🙂. I wouldn’t be without Hackonechloa … it’s happy anywhere, can be easily divided in Spring and makes a good corner plant.

Thank you Klahanie 🙂.

All looking good Sheila. If I had room for a small tree, it would be Amelanchier, beautiful in both spring and Autumn. It looks great with the amistad. I moved two of the bright pink salvia this afternoon and an.amistad. I shall mulch it and keep my fingers crossed!
That's good to know the Hakenachloa can.be sliced, I'd like one at least in my raised bed, which is still empty of soil!
Would your baby phlox be ok in a cold frame do you think, especially if it has a pebble base?

Thanks Janey, we have just been mulching too. Yes the Hakonechloa is amenable to being cut up. If yours is fairly big you might even get three pieces from it. You’ll have fun planting up your raised bed …

I agree my phlox would probably be fine in the cold frame but it is currently full with my taller cuttings!
