More lawn nibbling

Yep I’ve been at it again. I’ve had the last week off work, so between gardens and garden centre visiting and wedding dress shopping (that was fun, although I started to feel like a life size barbie Doll lol) I’ve been out digging.

I’ve carried on working my way up the garden from the shady bit, so now I’ve gone up past the fruit trees to the eucalyptus border.

Here’s a before shot – I’ve worked my way up from the right hand side of the border in the photo to just before the pink flowered lamium (if you can make it out – to the right of the Eucalyptus)

As I keep forgetting to take before pictures, this is one from a couple of months ago.

After lots of digging, a bit of lawn nibbling and plant moving this is what I’ve got now

Lots of gaps to fill (and no clue what to fill them with) but looking better I think. Just redefining the border edge makes a huge difference. Plus taking out the huge hollyhocks. They were planted before the fruit trees were even in the plan and unfortunately proved far too big for the fruit trees. They’re now potted up waiting for a new home. I’m thinking about planting them against the house in the front garden.

As well as that I’ve started getting my annuals in to fill gaps in the bits I’ve dug earlier this year:

The shade border I worked on earlier in the year has already filled out. I’m really pleased with how it’s worked out so far:

This photo is taken from the chairs next to the border:

Just for a bit of fun, here’s a couple of other photos I took of the garden tonight

I’ve got a busy few weeks ahead. The diggers should be here Friday to start work on the front garden :-) I can hardly wait. As well as that, going to work and working on the back garden, I decided I didn’t have enough to do. So I decided to spruce up moms deck for her birthday next week and install a drip irrigation system to the pots. I’ve got OH to build a raised herb bed for the deck as well. The plan is to haul everything round on Thursday, finish work at lunch and hopefully get it all set up ready for her birthday Saturday. Fingers crossed it works. The upshot is I may go quiet for a bit. At least till I find time to breathe again lol.

The garden looks superb. The path sets everything off just right. Everything grows so quickly you will soon wonder where the gaps were!

So what have you been doing with your self Sam, lol. It is looking really good! And Sonny looks happy with it. What a lovely idea for your Mums birthday, you will have to post pics. Sorry in pm, I forgot to say it is great that you finally have start date for front garden. Enjoy your wedding dress shopping, when you find the right one, you will just know! :-).

Looking good Sam, I do like your patio area and the curved pathway up to the house, you'll soon have it all filled out, especially if you keep visiting open gardens spotting plants you like and then onto GC's,enjoying it all is the name of the game..Hope everything works out for your Mum's Birthday, also that this flipping weather doesn't scupper your plans...

I agree, some empty space around each plant is a good idea. It's better for the plant & it shows off the plant's attributes.

It's nice that you're making more room for plants :) Your garden looks lovely.

Thanks everyone, sorry it's taken me so long, it's been a manic week.

Lol Jen, only a couple of jobs really.

Wow SBG that's a lot of plants, bet it's looking fantastic now.

Thanks Lincs, it's getting there slowly. Lol your probably right, Visiting open gardens can be dangerous.

I managed to get all the pots done on moms deck, largely without getting soaked. Didn't have time to set up the irrigation system Thursday, so went early Saturday (we had a family get together) to do it. So it threw it down. Ah well better luck next time. Mom has said she's pleased with it. I'll see about posting some pictures soon.

On a side note, the digger showed up today :-). Despite the huge pile of earth, it's already looking better.
