Yip June is best - you can use some of the larger clippings as cuttings (they root by August). Cutting now means that it will not grow enough or heal enough before first frosts.

I once heard Alan Titchmarsh give advice about trimming box - always on Derby Day in June. I've followed this advice for about 4 years now.
