I usually prune in spring but yours sounds as if it needs it or they may well suffer in winter winds! Prune by about 2/3 aiming for an open centred bowl shape is how I do my bush roses, check if you have any suckers and pull these off. Just above an outward facing bud make a sloping cut facing away from and not into the plant.
