can you tell me what the white thread like fungi is that iv found in my soil plants have been dying is it to blame?

No, its not to blame. The white threads you're finding are just mycelium of various fungii which are in the soil as a normal constituent of it - what it does say, though, is that the likely reason for your plants dying is drought - you can usually only see that white stuff when the soil is really dry.
