After what I thought was going to be a brilliant year something better than : Grows on You

After what I thought was going to be a brilliant year something better than last year turned out to be weird. I normally save seed and have always had good results. This year my saved seed from petunias have returned to be double flowers and upright as the pic shows also my geraniums have come back as minatures why??????
