i have three forest flames in my garden and they are looking very poor they used to be full of liaves now the look very sparse with big spaces what should i do

You can gut them back too if there is a lot of bare wood and they will generally break lower down the stem.

How long have they been in the ground? If they were fine for say a season and have then got worse it is probably because you don't have an acid soil which Pieris requires.
or maybe they just require a good feed . Try growmore or pelleted chickem manure
If that fails you could put them in peat based compost in pots and they should thrive but keep them well fed and watered. they also prefer some shade
