do you cut a bottle brush plant back in winter and if how far

my bottle brush plant looks sparce and there are lots of broken dead branches shall i cut it back if so how far and when

You can remove anything dead now, cut back to live wood, and you can trim back to the size and shape you want "in summer", whatever that means! Late June, I'd think.

Bottlebrushes flower in the summer (mine is in July) so pruning of any live branches should be left until the flowers fade or you will lose a year's blooms

Andrewr, depends where you live - mine's been in flower for 2 weeks and is nearly done. But I guess up north, it'll be later
