I have 4 metal buckets that have been made spcifically for plants. BUT can they have herbs planted in them? not sure what metal they are its silver coloured, was worried about the effect metal has on somethings

Sounds like they are galvanised (to prevent rusting) shouldn't hurt a bit!

The only problem with metal is that it can get very hot and may burn the plants. That's the only thing to watch out for.

paint them white it will reflect the light

If you don't want them white !!! line them with newspaper to buffer the plants from the heat.

And in winter, if you line the sides with bubble wrap or polythene, it'll keep the roots from freezing! Sorry, forgot to mention that earlier! I have lots of this if you want me to post it to you honey?
