Shrub roots

Asked on 1 May, 2008

We are taking shrubs out from around the outside of our home in the NE - laurels, yews, rhododendrons. We have a landscaper who will cut them down and grind the stumps to about two feet below the surface. Will that pose a problem for planting a perennial garden? Will it make the soil too acidic or something to leave them in? Was wondering about the pros and cons of having the entire root system removed, but that is so expensive!
