Why to the leaves seem to be spilting on the bird of paradise plant

The leaves ssem to be spliting on the bird of paradise plant which i have, if you could answer my question on why this is i would be very grateful.

Wind damage will split large leaves like banana and Strelitzia (bird of paradise). As long as it's only on the old leaves I wouldn't worry. My plant had one side shoot that was a bit distorted but the rest of the plant is fine. Cut off old leaves as new ones grow to replace them.
