Around plants you want to protect is best. Also sprinkle where they are found, so near rocks, damp places. The lawn contains most slugs so also sprinkle in the lawn.

Don't OVER sprinkle. Standard slug killer attracts slugs which is not what you want. a soupcon (notice my brill french) is all you need.

Agree - I restrict their use to a light dusting around particularly vulnerable plants such as hostas, and nowhere else.
