Compost bins I am going to build my own out of treated timber what sort of size do I need for my allotment.I was thinking around 4ft X 4ft and 3ft high.

To be honest I'd buy the council's plastic ones - they work!

I have both, my wooden one is 3ftx3ftx3ft, but I agree with MG as I find my large plastic one is very good and seems quicker then the more open wooden one.

Hello! Size and volume of compost produced will depend on size of garden/veg plot. If you wish to create your own compost heap, with posts and any kind of wire netting, then your measurements are great. Don't forget to cover the top to keep moisture in but sunlight out. I have found that an old unwanted bit of carpet does this best, as it also allows water in. I also have a council compost bin that works great, as with comments above, and is neat and tidy in the corner. I produce a lot of compost and need both. You may only need the council compost bin?
