Does anyone have a solution to the problem of moss on our bungalow roof (and to a lesser extent, on our drive)?

Moss on the roof can be cleaned off by a commercial process. A copper strip fixed along the the length of the ridge will then stop the moss re-growing. Both are profesional jobs and I would advise you to contact a local roofing contractor for further advice.

we have the same problem here so know exactly what you mean , it's a real problem. At the moment what we do is simply to wait for hot dry weather which dries up the moss then my husband pushes it off the roof with a broom!!It works, of course but does grow back so not a solution in itself. The drive is more of a problem, and again it's husband power, he uses one of those long handled tools to winkle the moss and weeds out of the brick drive.Other neighbours say that Jeys fluid is the answer, but it's tricky to get hold of these days.Good luck and if you hear of anything else to help we would be interested.

How does that work Bulbaholic? Sounds a bit like witch craft to me! :^)

No, A. The acid rain leaches copper oxides onto the roof below and prevents the moss from growing. We don't have a moss problem so I have no practical experience of this.

Thanks for your comments. In reply to Freeasabird, you can get Jeyes Fluid from most garden centres, Wilkinsons and some supermarkets. I had not heard of that before so as we have some Jeyes Fluid, we might try it. Other suggestions (not on the website) have been to spray with Bordeaux Mixture. Anyone tried that yet?

I rather think Jeyes Fluid has been withdrawn recently though.

According to the RHS website, there is a footnote to the withdrawal of Jeyes Fluid - "[Armillatox and] Jeyes Fluid remain on the market as disinfectants, but they are no longer permitted to be used for pesticidal purposes" so it should still be available as mentioned before.
