I planted some peonies in pots which grew about 12inches then the leaves went brown and they look dead. will they recover and can I leave the pots out over the winter?

Peonies are fully herbacious and the foliage dies right back in autumn. They are quite hardy and will be OK outside over winter. I hope that they are in very large pots because they have a big root system and are normally grown in the ground

I agree BA, they like a good root run. Could you plant them out or do they need to be in the pots. If you do plant them out then bury to the sae depth as they are now.

Thank you both. When do you think is the best time to plant them in the garden?

Any time now whilst they are dormant and winter has not yet struck.
