MAGNOLIA TREE

Asked on 7 Apr, 2008

Hello,
I got a couple more pictures of my pussy willow/magnolia tree, in between rain drops. Here is a picture of the whole tree, and a close up of one of the fuzzy pods opening up. We have something around here called a Tulip Tree and I see them blooming everywhere and it looks similar. Have you heard of them?

I don't think what you have is a Tulip Tree (Liriodendron tulipifera) Harli. They have greenish yellow flowers and can also grow to 100' .
I think the others were right and what you have is a Magnolia stellata or one of it's close family. Looking at some photos of young flowers the flower bud cover does appear to be hairy.
Are the flowers scented? Are the leaves scented if you crush them gently?

Thanks for the information. Whatever it is, I love it. I don't think I've ever seen a tree with flowers that didn't have leaves. Do you think they will show up later?
