My tree fern has not grown fronds this year after the bad winter and is mushy and sappy on the crown and has some small worms in it. Is it beyond help? Can i cut the top off and would it grow back?

It sounds a bit beyond it if it has done nothing this year. If its spongy and wet then that seals it. They grow from the very top so cutting it off won't help. If there was any hope at all, then it would be from the crown where it was growing. But by the sounds of it not growing at all this year, im afraid to say that its most likely dead.
