Plant ID please
I have been given this by a friend of a friend who's grandmother died recently. None of them are gardeners, can you help me identify if it is garden or indoors? It was in a pot outside on a sunny door step.
Thanks x

Houseplant, thank you pimpernel. I have a neighbour who like plants in her house I will pop it round to her.
Now that you mention the 'spider plant' hanging in the Macrame basket it rang a bell with me. I remember learing how to do Macrame at school and we had plants to put in the hangers and I think this was one of them!!

Certainly a house plant - from memory they root quickly in water. Not a bad plant, but as you say you used to you see them in those rope and bead hanging things. They remind me of school!

I had never seen this variety of Tradescantia, so I spent some time looking at pictures on Google. It is sold as Tradescantia x andersoniana 'Blushing Bride', but since T. x andersoniana is a completely different sort of plant, I suspect that it is actually a variegated form of T. multiflora.

Thanks Tug....it is in it's new home now with a neighbour. She has and likes house plants. They just get neglected indoors in my home :)

I have that very same Tradescantia growing in my garden, as do just about every member of my family.
It is pretty hardy, disappears at the end of the year, and then low and behold it comes back again good as new, and most times even bigger and better than before.
I have taken many cuttings, rooting them in a glass of water on the window cill, planting them up and handing them out to anyone who wants one. It makes a spectacular show especially when the new growth starts off, it is a very pretty pink in the centre.

I bet if I tried it would all come back Pimpernel!
Thanks Pottybird, as I said the neighbour has it now....I even took her to the GC to get a new pot for it - she's happy and I'm happy it has found a home.
Ill pass on the advice re cuttings to her, she may like to give it a try :)
