Pruning a fiddle leaf fig (ficus lyrata)

Could anyone advise me please on how to get my fig, which is about 5 feet tall with leaves all the way up the stem, to grow into more of a 'tree' shape, with a trunk and branches? Would it work if I just cut the top off? I have seen them in this form (in very large pots) but I don't want to harm it. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Yes, if you take the top out it will branch.Watch out for the latex sap as it's sticky. Dab the cut end with water to stop it dripping.
