I have recently purchased a small cannomois grandis, I believe it can grow very tall and once planted does not like to be moved. It currently is in a 4inch pot and would like advice on how I should pot it on and when I should plant out.

In their native S Africa they like very moist conditions too.

I had to look this one up - the rhizomes form dense stands to 1.5m across and the main stems grow up to 8' tall! They like open positions in full sun and acid to neutral soil and they're hardy to about -5°C.
Your pot therefore will soon be far too small, and you'll need to pot it on as soon as possible, and then make a judgement as to whether it will survive a winter outside in your area.
