Can anyone tell me what this is on my Rose Margaret Merrill,
The blooms started off fine then this happened, its on the blooms underneath and on top but not on the leaves at all. Is it a Virus? I have cut all the blooms off Help please? many thanks Denise.

Here again, I have found more, the same thing... caused by rain or overnight dew when overnight temperatures are cool.

We had a hot dry spring and then its turned quite cold June unusual weather for the SE which is why I havent seen this before?

it is 'water marks', my white rose has it as a consequence of the rain followed by sun on the flower.

Thanks SBG I will know in future and not be so quick to cut of the blooms off, but it will not be long before it flowers again.

Oh dear, shame you cut them off - all white roses are susceptible to rain spotting, but on this one, I rather like the effect because the spots look pink rather than grubby brown.

Yes it was a very pretty pink Bamboo, its the first time I have noticed it and I freaked lol.

Update - great news today a new bloom and no pink spots. This rose is very near a Plum Nigra do you think it could be dye from the tree in the very heavy rain we had?

No - it's just the flower's reaction to raindrops sitting on the petals.

Thanks Bamboo.

Glad I saw this entry! I have a Margaret Merrill which I love, it has most beautiful scent & I would be so worried if I didn't know what that was!!
I haven't had this problem, though mine is sheltered by a wall - wonder if that makes a difference.
At least I shall now know what this is if it happens to mine!
Thanks everybody. :)

Next question
Drc726, I have just googled that as a question, so far one said it is caused by tiny droplets of water or rain, it also said that it happens a lot to whites roses, I kind of believe that as when we got a lot of rain recently my Iceberg, had dark pink to red marks at the edge of their petals as mine faces downwards, see my rose blog, I have actually commented on it.
