I think you should google the word and follow with Greek meaning, or Latin meaning. Most botanical words have their roots in these languages.

Arauco is a place in Chile and the indigenous people are called Araucanians. I assume the Chilean pine, Araucaria araucana was named afer them. I don't know about the other species. I used to live there and my husband is chilean.

Yes correct, named after the Arauco Indians of central Chile. The majority of other species are to be found in New Caledonia.
