I work in a garden centre, a customer came in today with this rose, apparently it was bought for her and should have been a white rose.
Can any one tell me what rose it is or what has happened to it?

...doesn't even look like a rose flower, does it? lol!...

...sorry, can't help...but, did the customer buy it in your shop???

Am sure someone here will be able to help, though!

I 'think' what has happened here is that several flower buds have fused and produced this extremely distorted flower.

Hi. thanks for your comments, no it wasn't bought in our shop as far as I know, it was bought for her, I'm not sure if she knows where it was from, this is the second year of flowering and both years it has flowered like this.

It isn't fused buds, I have held a small branch of the plant
and the buds looked fairly normal, and another flower had partially opened looking just like the first.

We wondered if it had reverted back to an old rose from very early on in it's parentage?

Wonder if the plant has a virus... I am just a bout clueless with roses!

me too...!....have them, love them...but don't know quite what to do with them...

This plant is not diseased or distorted - it's the green-flowered rosa x odorata 'Viridiflora'. It's one you either love or hate

Thanks, Andrew!...It didn't look 'bad'...it just didn't look like a 'rose'...

.....,
but,.. aren't all plants 'love or hate'...?

Well you certainly learn something every day! I personally don't care for it.

Horrible, isn't it, I don't like it at all, though I'm not a rose lover generally, but this one really takes the biscuit...

Thank you very much for the identification Andrew, I personally love it!

Well that would not get space in my garden... in general I do not like doubles and that is just 'yuck' - then I have to remember that most folk think Arisaemas are weird!

maybe you should ask the customer to give it to you if she wants a white one instead, Spooky!

Yes offer to buy her a really nice white rose.

I like white roses except for one thing - all of them ball or spot in the rain and look dreadful

How do I say thanks?
