I know you can trim the lead out of a betula pendula to make it multistemmed, but how old should the tree be and what height do you trim it to please?
Thanks, Gail

We did ours when it was just a sapling of about 3 to 4 feet high and I cut it back to about 6 inches from the ground. Then, I only allowed 4 new stems to grow and have carried on removing basal growths to keep the main stems clear.

How do I say thanks?
