Victoria Plum Tree is bearing only white plastic type pods?

My Victoria Plum Tree has had masses of fruit for years but is now bearing only white plastic looking type pods about 1"- 1"1/2 long but no fruit. What is going on ?

Look up Pocket Plum - that's the only thing I can think of that might fit the bill.

That is what I thought too, but they usually are pale purple rather than white.

Yes, until the spore layer develops, when they can look all white...
