I have an acer tree growing in a pot but the roots are growing upwards - do I need a bigger pot or could it be due to bad drainage?

It's being suffocated, re-pot it asap.
Use a pot that's at least 2 feet diameter and 2 feet high and it will start to breathe a sigh of relief.

Thank you - I am a bit of a novice and it is such a beautiful tree!

Acers do not like to be moved when in leaf, but it sounds like they will benefit more from a repot than leaving it till autumn.

I agree this is not the ideal time to repot but waiting until autumn does not seem to be an option in this case.

How do I say thanks?
