I have a cordyline tree in my front garden. The leaves are all brown and hanging down and it looks really poorly. Has the harsh winter killed it?

If it is dead will the roots be a nightmare to remove?
Many Thanks

Almost everyone's having the same problems if they have cordylines. It was mentioned on Gardener's World, watch it here on -

Give it some time as it might regrow.

Check the trunk all the way down for signs of rotting, oozing, sogginess, cracks, etc. If you find any, cut down the trunk beyond the rotted area, and if that's at the base, take it down to there. Then wait - it should regrow from the roots, but it'll take some time, and if it does regrow, take care to provide protection this winter if its not a mild one. For further info on the slime flux situation mentioned in Gardeners World, see my blog posted today.
