Hi, i planted a small magnolia three years ago in my south facing garden. The tree has hardly grown and looks quite bear of leaves and the occassional flower in summer ..... What can I give it to encourage it to grow ?

You haven't said which variety of Magnolia you're growing, but in general, they like rich, moist soil (preferably enriched with lots of composted material prior to planting) and light shade. If you have it in a sunny spot in soil that dries out, it won't be happy.
