I have got a 6'high by 8 metre long fence, which I want to hide. My border is 80 cm deep from fence up to my patio. To grow sideways, to stop root damage to my patio.[limestone slabs]. Low maintenence, colour. [South/east facing]Hope you can help. Tank you.

The first thing to do would be to buy lots of 6 foot wide bean netting (the type with 6inch 'holes') and staple this horizontally to the fence. It becomes invisible from a few feet away and will save you hours of tying in. Then choose climbers such as Clematis, Actinidia, Winter and Summer Jasmine, Honeysuckle. The choice is vast!

Lots of supermarkets are selling cheap climbers at the moment - I've seen them in The Range and Morrison's. I'm sure the others will have them too.

How do I say thanks?
