my pyracantha put on two foot of growth in quick time then last autumn lost all of its leaves, the plant is budding again now, any idea of a cause

Some sort of shock? Did you move it or was it newly planted? Was there a sudden cold snap? I think you're lucky it has recovered. I hope it carries on thriving.
