Is it ok to cut back my various hedging by 1 foot in depth and it's about 7 foot high. Or should I wait until October?

If any of it is conifers, then don't cut into brown wood as it won't resprout (unless it's Yew which will!). The others could be trimmed back now and they will sprout again in spring. Any idea what sort of things they are? Native hedging or what?
