What are these 'thrip like' things in the compost? They
are white, very tiny living things.

I found white flies when I opened my kitchen waste composter yesterday. Usually I have swarms of fruit flies. Neither is harmful, merely annoying in large numbers indoors. If what you see are tiny and worm-like they're probably larvae of the above.
