Healthy plants in 9cm pots received from Crocus. They have plenty of root but I’m still nervous about planting them out (eg Penstemon Huskers Red, Phlox Chattahoochee). Would it be too risky? I’m probably being impatient …

If you could sit bare bottomed on the soil then it is warm enough to plant things!

Penstemon Huskers Red is a bit tender I find, I've lost a few but planted the last one in a sheltered spot. Maybe after it becomes a large clump it might survive colder temps.

I don't know the other one.

I would not plant them out for a few weeks. With the penstemon I would pot that on into a bigger pot and keep it frost free until late April when the frosts are [hopefully] gone. I found small plants of it didn't survive in the ground but bigger better established ones did.

The phlox is much hardier and again end of March would be better.

Many thanks Owd, Hywel and Eileen. I’m quite surprised to see that one Huskers Red (out of three) has survived from last year … maybe that area is fairly sheltered. But I will wait a bit longer.

Don’t try Owd’s bare bottom on the soil thing! You might not survive 😊

Don’t try Owd’s bare bottom on the soil thing, you may not survive, :-))

It’s ok Josee, I wasn’t planning to try it … I’d have difficulty getting up again. But I like the idea!

I’m not keen on the bare bottom idea. After all…stones!

How do I say thanks?
