Every year I plant Hollyhocks plants from a local nursery, zone 5 Michigan. They NEVER come back the following year! Can someone tell me what I may be doing wrong? Thank you.

do they flower for you ? I find the ones I grow are really short lived more like biennials so after flowering they die off. Sometimes if I remember to dead head so no seeds form I may get a following year out of them. But they don't like the winter wet. So perhaps add grit when you plant them to aid drainage. They also prefer a sunny site.
