In your area, I would wrap the trunk in about 3 layers of burlap--rumpled and lumpy and bumpy is best--and end the last layer in a cup at the crown of the tree, so it will hold a pile of hay or straw to insulate the crown. Make sure the stake is strong and steady to hold it up through the winter. This may actually be overkill, but I don't know your elevation or exposure, so I'm playing it safe..
