I have a Laburnum vossii planted over 20 years ago it has now died on one side and the base of the trunk is rotted my question is because of the cost of cutting down and taking away would I have problems if I just left the trunk in place as I was thinking of covering it with a climber.

I rethought this in view of what you said SBG and I got a tree surgeon to check it and he was able to put his hand through the trunk at ground level also the branches are rotting and it is now rocking. It was really sad seeing it come down today.

wow that is really gone. Such a shame though. But better to be safe than sorry.

It will be fine for a few years until it rots totally and collapses. So you would need to check it regularly for stability.
