An iris.
Sorry the pics. are not good. I grew this from a 'pot-luck' pack of seeds. Didn't know what it was until came home yesterday and found it in flower. Left it until this morning to photograph and it is already going over!
Can some kind soul guess which sort of iris it is likely to be? It's quite short at the moment but it's only just been planted out into the border.

Hmm...it's got the wrong sort of leaves for a Dutch Iris. I was thinking a dwarf Spuria, or, if small enough, one of the reticulata group.

Is it a Pacific coast type?
all the reticulate group flower in Feb/March in the UK and have been over for weeks now.

I forgot about the Pacific Coast types, Sbg! They're likely candidates. Possibly also Iris missouriensis, which often shows up in American wildflower mixes.

Thanks for your input, SBG and Tug.
I have looked online at all the types you mention and it's closest to Missouriensis, though difficult to tell now it's going over. I have another bud coming out; I"ll take a close look at that.

It's a Dutch Iris but I'm not sure of the specific variety.
