Fig Tree too large

Hi all,

We have inherited a very large fig tree in our small Patio garden (it doesn't fruit, but the foliage is stunning). We would like to keep it, but are unsure how to prune it in order to keep it under control. Or should we simply take it out and start again?

Many thanks

Hi Natty ime no expert but have had fig trees for some years.i Have found after having very little fruit, i remember watching gardeners world ,they advised pruning upto the third branch from a main branch, this i did and found it forced the fruit to form at the branch joint below and sometimes below that,.

Jake 7. I also have a fig but it's in a pot. It fruits every year but not prolifically. Your explanation of pruning might be a boon to me.
