You have a choice - some people trim them in spring, just to shape them, and risk losing the flowers for that year, while others wait until they've flowered.

If you prune them now, you are likely to be cutting the flower buds for next year off.

I wouldn't do it at this time of year...if it decided to put on new growth, they could well get frost damaged in your part of the country!
