I have a Cordyline Australis which was planted in sept 08, it has grown approx 20ft. After the harsh winter in North Wales it has died off at the top(brown leaves & the bark is very soft underneath) Yet it has now started growing from the bottom of the trunk with lovely green leaves. would it be safe to take off the top where the bark is soft?

Yes, cut it back to just above the new growth. Phil J
