can I build a vegetable patch on ground that a dog has pooped on for the last six years? The poo is pick up and not left on the grass

If you still have the dog you'll need to work out where it can poop now though, and put some effort into training it to use the "designated area". Perhaps it's moved with its owners to a new house?

Hi Hannah and welcome to GoY. Well you'll be lifting the turf so there will not be a problem. Stack the turves upside down somewhere and in a few years time you'll have some good loam.
