I can't tell if this flower is dying or issupposed to look like this? I know that is daft but the leaves and buds look healthy enough but the bloom looks like it has wilted before it has blossomed?

What is the plant and is there anything wrong with it?

(Last que of the night ;-)

Dead

it is a hemerocallis or day lily. each flower only lasts a day, hence its name. so this looks perfectly normal. the dead flower may drop off or stay on and form a seed pod. The other flower buds will open, last a day etc.
so a nice plant.

Ha! Really - I've never heard of the like! Ok I'll checkit daily to see if I can get a picture on the bloom day.

If you try to get there earlier in the day you should have more luck Pam.

Looks like you have had plenty of flowers on that stem. Mine usually last throughout the day. They are in fairly shady areas early in the day and the sun hits them much later. I wonder if placing them somewhere else would allow you more time to admire what must be one of the nicest flowers at this time of year.

In this garden of mine it 'does' Scotsgran.
The ones that get sun for most of the day actually flower for about 2 days whereas the one i have in more shade lasts a lot less.

Thanks Louise, I will try putting some in a sunnier place when I spit them. They have grown in to quite a big clump. Pamsco the middle one of your three is a spent flower the other two are flower buds.Hope you catch them out.

Thanks. The area mine are in are sunny part of the garden except that they are being shaded by the rampant hedge behind.

Part of the hedge is Forsythia and I don't want to cut it back until after it has flowered. So the sacrifice is an increase in shade to the East side of the garden.

Due to a very early start in work today I never checked - will do tonight :-)
