I planted a gooseberry bush early on this year.It is very healthy looking and has grown well, but there is no fruit,is this normal? Will I get fruit next year?

As you only planted this year would not have expected to fruit. Once it has settled in should be fine. The only other problems could be no pollinators at flowering time and frost at flowering time.
