I have become aware that my compost bin has a rat in so I put a rat bait in it. Will this affect my soil once used on the veg beds later after the rat has gone somewhere to die?

If you put rat bait down other animals like an Owl may eat the rat & kill them. :o((

You could simply empty the bin (Put your wellies on first if you're squeamish). Leave it empty for a while before starting to use it again. If you have a friend with a Jack Russell invite them over to help! We had one once but it didn't stay long and we never saw it again, if that's any comfort.

Rats do not like the smell of Jeyes Fluid, so to deter them, I would wash the area around the compost bin with some. It will get rid of its wee and any germs, flies and maggots that its dead body might attract!

No it wont. Remove any uneaten bait and put that in the council general waste bin.
