do copper rings need cleaning or polishing after use to deter slugs?

I have used copper for a while and I have never purposely cleaned the rings they will not lose any of there conductivity if not cleaned, copper tape I just pull off and replace every 2/3 years or when it looks bad you may get a bit of discolouring due to it oxidizing but you cannot do a lot about that and welcome to GOY.
