Hi Lindasue and welcome to GoY. More information needed please, how long have you had the acers (I'm assuming they are the Japanese ones, were they in pots or in the ground, were they situated somewhere windy? All these questions will have a bearing on why the acers lost so rapidly. Ours are still in full leaf and I wouldn't expect them to start losing their leaves for a few weeks yet.
