Again, I may have asked...... but my small apple tree (7 ft tall earlier this year) has millions ( at least ) of leaves on it - so many that I can hardly see the apples ( of which there are always loads ).
Should I be doing anything about this and can I do some pruning yet ?

In mid August, you can cut all the new growth back to within a couple of buds of the old wood. This will encourage the production of fruit buds for next year.

And next spring, use a lower nitrogen fertilizer.

Thanks guys, I can't wait to make a start with this job. But mid- August will do fine. I've got no idea why I've got so many leaves this year but definitely a lower nitrogen fertiliser next year.
I've been watering it with my comfrey liquid regularly, could that be the problem ?

Hank I think you've hit the nail on the head too much comfrey liquid :)

Thanks MG, I shan't do that again.

Just to prove that there is too much of a good thing! :)

Hi Hank, looks like it is in need of pruning but you can't really do that right now. There really isn't anything you can do right now...
